ATHENS, March 29 (Reuters) - Greece coach Otto Rehhagel on Saturday extended his contract with the European champions until the 2010 World Cup, Greek Football Association president Vassilis Gagatsis told reporters. ‘It was a brief meeting and very easy because Mr Rehhagel wanted to stay on,’ Gagatsis told reporters after the deal was struck.
On March 26th, 2008, Portugal played Greece for an international friendly as both teams prepare and finalize the squads for the Euro2008. Greece were clinical in the dead ball situations and former Benfica player Karagounis scored two spectacular free kicks to beat Portugal’s Ricardo. Portugal have now lost 3 consecutive times to Greece.

The European Champions, two teams that almost always flatter to deceive, and upstarts led by Guus Hiddink. That is the constitution of Group D, which is probably Euro2008’s “group of life”. Greece, who are reigning European Champions, are not as talented as Spain, or maybe even Sweden, but their sheer organization will prove formidable. Russia, who wriggled their way through to Euro2008, have the Hiddink-factor, which will doubtless make them play beyond their means.
In case some of you forgot, Greece are the reigning European Champions. They have also retained their legendary coach, Otto Rehhagel, and are ready to rely on the same tactics that won them their completely unexpected crown four years ago. The German coach ensured that Greece book their ticket to Euro2008 on virtue of their biggest strength: flawless organization. The Greeks had the best defensive record in their qualifying group and finished on top, ahead of teams like Turkey and Norway.
